Cementerio Santa Maria de Pazzis

This cemetery is the final resting place of many of Puerto Rico's most prominent natives and residents.

This is the entrance of the cemetery.
Here we are beside the tomb of Alejandro Tapia y Rivera, a Puerto Rican dramaturg, poet and essayist. Tapia is considered the father of Puerto Rican literature and as the person who  contributed the most to the cultural advancement of Puerto Rico's literature in the 19th century.

We also visited the tomb of Pedro Albizu Campos.  He was a Puerto Rican attorney and politician, and the leading figure in the Puerto Rican independence movement.

At the cemetery also is buried José Gautier Benitez. He was a Puerto Rican poet, mostly influenced by the exponents of the Romantic poetry of the 19th century.
This is the tomb of Jose de Diego a famous Puertorican poet, journalist, politician and lawyer who was regarded as the "Father of Puerto Rico's Independence Movement".  He was elected to the House of Delegates and served as first President of this body which later became the House of Representatives.

This is the tomb of Jose Julian Acosta  a Puertorican Journalist, Politician and Abolitionist. He became an elected representative at the Spanish Courts and presented arguments against slavery in Puerto Rico  in Spain.
