At the end of this street is the first fortification built in Old San Juan... La Fortaleza. It is the oldest governor's mansion still in use in the Western Hemisphere. Built between 1533 and 1540 to defend the harbor of San Juan. La Fortaleza is also known as
Palacio de Santa Catalina.
